THE British Army’s Royal Gurkha Rifles (RGR) will remain in Brunei indefinitely despite deep cuts to government spending, assured the deputy minister of defence.
Dato Paduka Hj Mustappa Hj Sirat recently told local media that the regiment of Gurkhas will continue to protect and defend the sultanate’s interests, following a renewal of the Garrison Agreement inked between Brunei and the United Kingdom in February.
“The British Forces will still be here for a long time to come,” he said on the sidelines of the Gurkha 200 Commemoration Parade in the capital last Sunday.
