THE Department of Agriculture and Agrifood (DAA) has set a new target for rice production with the introduction of Titih, a high yielding hybrid rice variety that will be distributed to farmers for commercial production by next year.
DAA Head of Rice Research and Development Unit Khairunnisa Hj Omar Ali said the commercialisation of Titih will boost rice production from the current three metric tonnes per hectare to eight metric tonnes per hectare in a season, especially for rice plantations in irrigated areas.
