BRUNEI will lose an integral part of its history and national heritage if the migration of Kampong Ayer residents to land continues to gain momentum, a scholar said.
Hj Md Rafee Hj Shahif, lecturer at Universiti Brunei Darussalam’s Academy of Brunei Studies, said the increasing migration of residents threaten the water village’s existence.
Figures from the Department of Economic Planning and Development showed that more than 13,000 people have moved out from Kampong Ayer in 30 years.
