Meteorological Dep’t: No tsunami threat

BRUNEI does not face any threat of tsunami triggered by an earthquake near the coast of Central Chile, the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department said yesterday.

The department received a Tsunami Threat Message from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre (PTWC) stating the possibility of a tsunami affecting several countries.

PTWC forecasted tsunami waves triggered by an earthquake that had occurred near the coast of Central Chile (coordinates of 31.5 S, 7,2.0 W), with preliminary magnitude of 8.3, at 6.54am Brunei local time yesterday (tsunami on September 17, 2015)
